Sports Massage

Everyone enjoys massage. From babies to the elderly, from sportsmen and women to friends. An effective aid to relaxation, massage helps to soothe away stress, unknotting tense and aching muscles, relieving headaches and help sleep problems. But massage is also invigorating: it improves the functioning of many of the body's systems, promotes healing and tones muscles, leaving you with a feeling of renewed energy.

Reasons for Sports Massage

Sports massage is a hands-on touch therapy, used as a healing art to aid aches and pains and to promote healing from within. One instinctively massages or rubs a part that is hurt, it is almost a reflex action. Nerves can be either soothed or stimulated according to depth of movements, helping to relax or refresh a tense or tired client. If the massage is performed correctly and in a caring manner by the Therapist, it has a great relaxing effect on the client. The client will feel relaxed and have a sense of well being.

Effects of Sports Massage

Sports massage can stimulate and relax the body and mind. The skin, blood and lymphatic systems are stimulated, which boosts circulation, aids cellular renewal and removes toxic wastes. As tense muscle relax, stiff joints loosen and nerves are soothed. An all-over feeling of relaxation and well-being comes about.

The Skin

With massage comes an increase in blood circulation. The helps the exfoliation of superficial dead skin cells, tones the skin and encourages its renewal process. Massage helps maintain the collagen fibres, which give skin it's elasticity and strength, and keeps wrinkles at bay. The activity of the sweat and sebaceous glands, which lubricate and moisturise the skin, is regulated.

Sports Massage

With the increase in blood flow, the blood's vital nutrients circulate more efficiently. Sports massage is popular with sportsmen and women because it can improve muscle tone, restore mobility, and ensure the elimination of waste products after exercise. With regular massage any strains and sprains heal more rapidly, while calf cramps and stiff muscles can become a thing of the past. Sports massage before an exercise session will help loosen and warm up muscles or afterwards it will ease sore, aching limbs.

I am fully qualified in Swedish and sports massage.
